Re: Nurse Mary YOUNG , - Scottish heroine of WW2 :

Here is reply to the email I sent.

    Dear Mr Fenton

Thank you for your enquiry which has been forwarded to Local Studies for attention.

Unfortunately, Mary Young is not listed in the Roll of Honour.

It aimed to record those in the Armed Forces and members of Civil Defence Services and civilians who lost their lives as a result of enemy action. When the first draft came out for public inspection in 1956, its compiler is quoted in the press as saying it had been a difficult task because of the time lapse
since the end of the war and because of the poor response from the public for information about Aberdeen's war dead.

I am sorry that we cannot be of greater assistance on this occasion.

    Yours sincerely

    Catherine Taylor

Thanks Smokie, GOOD BIT OF WORK<
however is it the case that it is too late to add her to the Roll of Honour?
I should think that there are exceptions made and this surly must be one.
All the have to do is 'google" her name and the rest is history.
Probably worth writing back to ask what action is being taken

Al, the Aberdeen library enquiry has been done several years ago by a friend who resides in Aberdeen . Seems the media just have the Edith Cavell in their minds .

Please look at the SUNDAY POST on 14 March 2010 for the story of Nurse Mary Young .

Her death 65 years ago this Sunday 14th March 1945 :

hope you buy the SP and see this story and maybe her next of kin will get the medals given to recipients or next of kin like others did today at 10 Downing Street Re the special medal for resistance in WW2 etc

Has anyone informed The SP that we have a running commentary on this? Also what chances of getting her listed on Aberdeen and Scotland Rolls of Honour? How would we go about this? It appears strange that agents such as Violette Szabo, Lilian Rolfe etc are all commemorated on various memorials and will be on National Roll of Honour and we have someone who was murdered by Nazis for helping the likes of Violette Szabo etc and is NOT.
