Wednesday 11/11/2009 Forfar

These photos are from the 11am Wednesday 11 November 2009, Royal British Legion Scotland, Forfar Branch Two Minutes silence at the Forfar Cross.

Council officials and Police Inspector John Tasker of Tayside Police at Forfar were in attendance along with the Lord Lieutenant of the County of Angus Mrs Osborne wife of ex Black Watch Captain James C Osborne and the Provost of Angus. This year police officers were in attendance doing point duty prior to the Two Minutes silence as last year there was no police in attendance to stop traffic for the Silence period so I raised the matter with the authorities!

I hear from a friend in New York you call 11 November - " VETERANS DAY " and I would have thought that they would realise why 11am was chosen to remember the casualties of War ..

Good to hear reports from you all out there in various parts of the World .

" At the Going Down of the Sun and In the Morning We Will Remember THEM !" (and Ive not forgotten my Namesake Uncle Lt P W Anderson , Black Watch , RFC & RAF and I never knew him but I am sure that many people around the world know about him through me over my years of life than knew him in his short life !)

In America remembrance day or veterans day is an excuse for the stores to have a sale.

A great number of the population do not have a clue about the significance of this day. Neil

    We will remember.

It was at the eleventh hour that the guns fell silent, ending the war. Thats why 11.00 am is used. The eleventh hour of the eleventh day we will remember them.
