Hi Chuck , this wee dog grave from 1918 is located at the wood beside a public park and officials from the council who have cut the grass on the park have not touched the Poppy Crosses during the many years that my wife and I have laid it at the gravestone .... 1999 .... The public in Scotland know what a Poppy Cross is for so they would not remove it and the lapel poppy that someone had placed at the gravestone too had gone

the McDonald Park formerly in the 1800s was the council tip known as the "Coup" but by the Great war a park is located off the Keptie Street / Keptie Road in the town. The wood that the Regimental dog was buried is called Keptie wood and that was once a continuation of the hill where the Water Tower is built on that overlooks the Keptie Pond known locally as the Pondie.

OS ref for the grave would be 633.411. GB grid

No Chuck you are told when working in the Cemetry's that you do not remove anything unless it is a danger to others. Now we do not know if the Poppy cross that Pat put down was a danger or not. But back to sense what is at a grave stone is left alone, unless it is a eyesore or as above.

Its not a cemetery that the wee dog's grave is located . It is at the edge of a wood at the edge of a public park . The council have not removed it during the previous 10 years with Poppy Crosses laid on Remembrance Sunday in November and again another new Poppy Cross on 28th January each year .

    Thanks all,

I think I have found it using Google Street View.

It is in quite a prominent location.

Great find Chalky, its just a pity that the zoom doesn't take it in close enought to read, but at least we can all see now what Pat has been talking about.

Just a thought perhaps if it had a small brick edging or something similar around it, it would become a more prominent landmark for the public to notice, maybe the council or some well meaning individuals could do it.

thanks for clearing that up for me Pat/Philip... the cemetaries around here don't have headstones for the most part just plaques in the ground with vases built in.... it's a shame then that someone would remove the cross and poppy for the dog... some people just are just either plain ignorant or thoughtless....
