    Re: Menin Gate

Thanks Chalky for adding these extra pics that I sent onto you that were taken by my friends Freddy &amp; Anita from Belgium. They went with other family relatives to the Last Post ceremony especially as ooor friend, JOE was attending the Ceremony and laying a Wreath on behalf of the BLACK WATCH ASSOCIATION .

Pics 9 &amp; 10 show Freddy &amp; Anita with oor Joe and the additional pics following are of Menin itself that evening : Monday 3rd August 2009 so on 3rd August 1914 and 95 years ago the Great War to end all wars was about to start and many young lads from our families were casualties of that war ...

    WE WILL REMEMBER THEM :

    Re: Menin Gate

Thanks Pat for posting them, I had to do a 2nd run at laying the Wreath after the ceremony for our official photographer from Armagh. The Town where The Menim Gate is called Ypres or Leper or as The Soldiers called it Wiper. It is a really lovely place to walk about, the people are so pleasant and very helpful, this was my second visit and I am trying to talk the good lady in coming across for a few days. There is so much to see here in relation to the Great War, they also have airports fairly close, the Bus and train service is very good.

    Re: Menin Gate

Joe, its hard to beleive that in Ypres during WW1 not one building was higher than 3 feet due to the constant shelling. Its a testament to the skills of the local tradesmen how they reconstructed all the buildings to their original condition using the original plans which were saved by officials when the shelling began.!!!Bill...

    Re: Menin Gate

Pat's friends Freddy &amp; Anita took this photo at Menin Gate.

The text that accompanied the photo read:

<span style="font-style: italic">We went back to France today and when we came back we had a stop at Ypres.

It was after 7pm so we decided to wait for the last post. There was some other people now to lay a Wreath and this man (photo) had fought in Dunkirk. He said guess how old he is, he is born in 1904 so he is 95 and he still walked upon the steps to lay the Wreath
