    Re: Menin Gate

Thanks Chalky for adding these pics of the Black Watch missing on the Menim Gate memorial that were taken by my friends Freddy and Anita from Belgium on Monday 3rd August when Joe (Armagh) was there laying the Black Watch Association wreath .

I first met Freddy and Anita at a War Memorial within a Cemetery near Dingwall last September and they visited us here in Angus last month .

Folks from Arbroath will recognise the name of 2nd Lieut Joseph Frain WEBSTER ,M.I.D., 3rd Bn Black Watch attached 2nd Bn Gordon Highlanders killed in action 30 October 1914 son of the late Sir Francis Webster and Lady Webster of Ashbrook House , Arbroath .

2nd Lieutenant Joseph Frain Webster is listed on the War Memorial at Arbroath ( High Common) , Arbroath High School war memorial, St Vigeans (near Arbroath) war memorial, and in the High Street of the town of Arbroath viz The Webster Memorial Hall now known as the Webster Memorial Theatre as inside the doorway is a picture of 2nd Lieutenant J F Webster, Black Watch attached Gordon Hdrs. He was the First Arbroath High School casualty of the Great War and he is listed in the initial casualties in the Arbroath High School Magazine of June 1915 . 2nd Lt J F Webster , Mentioned in Despatches , was the first casualty of the High School at Arbroath and my namesake Uncle, Lt P W Anderson BW , RFC /RAF the last from the school .

Thank you Freddy & Anita for these excellent pics and for attending the Last Post on Monday 3rd August and so that you could meet up with Joe and take pics of him involved in the Ceremony of the Last Post .

Thanks Chalky for posting for Pat, I also took some photos of the names of those missing, look at some of the Black Watch names and you will know them as coming from a family regiment.

Family names: Beveridge,Cameron,Campbell,Cook,Dunn,Gilmour,Law and Sands and so on, this is just a small sample.

Look at all the names so many of them. Whole families wiped out. God Speed to all of them.

I did not realise that there were other Reveille versions but your military background will spot this difference in tunes, Bill .
