    Major General David Stewart

Garth is situated not far from Fortingall and near Aberfeldy. It is the family home of The Stewarts of Garth.

David Stewart is perhaps the most famous of them all. He was a Black Watch Officer rising to the rank of Major General. He was also a historian and wrote many books on military matters.

Click Here to read more about him.

One of the books he wrote was entitled, "Sketches of The Character, Manners, and Present State of the Highlanders of Scotland; with details of The Military Service of The Highland Regiments."

I obtained an ecopy of this book and it is a good read. I started to transcribe it when purely by accident I found that 'Electric Scotland' had already done so.

Here is the link to the ebook. Sketches etc

Scroll down to Part 3. This deals with the Black Watch from their birth to 1809.
