The Kelpies at the Castle

We are delighted to announce that the striking 10ft high scale models of The Kelpies, hand crafted by renowned sculptor Andy Scott are visiting The Black Watch Castle and Museum. These iconic sculptures pay homage to the tradition of the working horses in Scotland. Their visit to the Castle and Museum encourages us to reflect on the important role played by horses throughout Scottish and military history.

Meet the Kelpie maquettes, explore their mythical origins in Scottish folklore and discover why the horse has become a symbol of strength and power throughout Scottish history.
Each child will receive a family ticket to return to the museum within the next 3 months.

Lunchtime Lecture | History of the Horse in Warfare

For thousands of years the horse has been our companion, transport, and wartime ally. In this lecture Richard McKenzie, archivist at The Black Watch Museum, will consider the fundamental role played by the horse throughout military history.
