    Here's an updated (as in more deeply researched) version, which includes the 2nd Btn 1914 cohort also.

    1st Btn 1914 Officers & men
    1940 disembarked - 769 died (39.6%)

    2nd Btn 1914 officers & men
    943 disembarked – 379 died (40.2%)

    Combined 1st & 2nd Black Watch totals who qualified for the 1914 Star:
    2,883 disembarked - 1,148 died (39.8%)

    Bear in mind this does not include those who were discharged due to wounds and illness.
    The regulars and reservists who went out early in the war had a high probability of death or serious wounding.
