Black Watch on Newry WW1 Roll of Honour
A Roll of Honour was compiled for Newry Urban District Council in 1915 listing those from the town who had gone to serve in the Great War. It lists three members of the Black Watch:
Pte. David Edwards, 10th Battalion, 5984
Pte. Charles E. Kerr, 6th Batt., 2113
Pte. Bernard Matthews, 1850
I was wondering if anyone would have any further information on them or any information on any other members of the regiment from the area who may have served later in the war.

Welcome Greg to the Black Watch site.
There were quite a few Irish men served in the Black Watch in the Great War, I have details of Irish serving soldiers I will look them but it will be a couple days.
Where about in Newry are you?

I can't find any trace of Pte Mathews.
Any idea of his mothers maiden name?

Thanks for the information. I'm based in Newry and Mourne Museum in Bagenal's Castle, Castle Street Newry. Like a lot of museums around the country we are researching for an exhibition around our local area's role in the war. We're always grateful for any specialist knowledge.
Thanks again
Greg
