John, Both those men were killed in the V.C. action of Hangard Wood.
Hutchison's history quote, "On the front of the 13th Royal Highlanders stubborn resistance was soon encountered from the enemy in Hangard Wood, which was a mass of German machine gun nests. These had to be overcome one by one in grim hand-to-hand fighting and many a gallant action took place before the Wood was cleared. In this fighting two of the Highlanders, Pte J.B.Croak and Cpl H.J.Good were outstanding and both were awarded the Victoria Cross for their gallant endeavour that day."
On that day the Battalion captured 19 artillery pieces, 8 trench -mortars and 31 machine -guns.
