Many years ago I was offered this booklet by a lad in Edinburgh, his price was a wee bit high, 75. Brith Pounds, I've not see it since. Good luck with your search.

I assume there was a booklet of "dinna forget" for each battalion? I've seen one for the 6th Battalion also, 12 pages and all photo's.

The 4th and 7th Btn. booklets can be viewed at the Dundee City and Kirkcaldy libraries respectively.

"My Six Years With The Black Watch" by John Gordon, published Boston, Mass. 1928. The fuzzy-wuzzie campaign and attempt to relieve the siege of Kharthoum. (Sp.) A thoroughly good read and the author had to have kept a journal to be so accurate...300 some odd pages, may be of interest to BW afffectionados. I'm 70 now, and it was the very first "grown up" book I ever read.
    Regards to all!

42nd Royal Highland Regiment. Records of the Sergeants August 1826 - May 1873.
Published by S.G.Pike Army Printer Chapel St Devonport 1873.
Brief service records of Sgts with some hand annotations of medal entitlements entered by previous owner.
Index of names at the rear of book, so if anyone wants me to look up someone just ask.

Ron, could take you up on that offer?

I would be interested to know if there was a Sergeant or Sergeant Major Macpeherson, initial W. serving with the 42nd in 1845.

    Thanks
    JF
