Another artwork by Richard Hubbard (see post 885).
    606 L/Cpl J.S.Gordon D.C.M. 2nd Bn Royal Highlanders. (L.G. 3rd June 1915).
For conspicuous gallantry and ability in leading a bombing party under fire through barbed wire entanglements over exposed ground, which resulted in the capture of a German trench and 71 prisoners. Many of the enemy were killed by this party.

Man in hospital blues small button on the hackle. The following information written on reverse.
Beaufort War Hospital Bristol. Nurse Rodgers.
Between May 1915-Feb 1919 29,433 patients passed through with only 64 deaths 30 of which were from the infuenza epidemic of 1918.
Even more remarkable most of the doctors and surgeons were volunteers from America Canada New Zealand and Australia and nearly all the nursing staff were untrained VADs.

    Smile Black Watch Pictures

I have been looking at your amazing pictures Ron, very impressive.

I have been searching for a picture of The Hon. Captain George Henry Essex Grant, 42nd, taken in the Crimea by Roger Fenton, as part of his Crimea collection. I know that is was displayed in an exhibition in 1855-56 and was listed by Christies when the collection was sold in Auction in 1996.

I know it is a long shot, but I don't suppose that you have a picture of him?

    Many thanks

    John

Hi John, sorry I do not have a photo of Cpt Grant. Was the picture illustrated in the Christies catalogue? You may be able to purchase a copy from Getty images or from similar picture libraries. I do have this one of Cpts Graham and Macloud.
