Albert Victor McDonald L/Cpl 2205 "C" Coy 2nd Black Watch wounded on May 9th Aubers ridge in L/Cpls Finlays VC action.
Battalion suffered 60% casualties of men engaged that day, he died of his wounds two days later age 24.
He is buried in Cabaret Rouge British Cemetery Souchez, the son of James McDonald 11 Mauriston Cresent Edinburgh.
Back of card suggests photo taken at Garrison Church Calcutta, but I recognise the lantern on the wall as being Edinburgh Castle.
Probably taken on his enlistment before joining the 2nd Bn in India.

I can see some MacKenzie tartan kilts peering out from under kilt covers and some ordinary HLI badges, Ron. These are highly likely to be 6th HLI. I would further surmise that the men with the large star badges would be 9th HLI by association. Are there further uniform clues that convince you that these are 9th HLI? Not doubting your conclusion but just wondering if there are things I have missed.
