I think the date of the photo is between the wars, Ron. They are wearing white spats with service dress; this was rare (never say "never") pre-Great War. Service dress strongly suggests pre-1940. So, 1920s - 1930s.

Thank you Mike, as the 1st Bn were abroard most of 20/30s Its possibly 2nd Bn who were at Fort George 1925-30. There is a suggestion in the photo of the curved Black Watch shoulder title worn 1921-7.

Yes, the short lived curved shoulder title would pin it down. I could not see that in the reduced resolution image in your post. I would give the dating some leeway, perhaps through 1930, since the old titles were probably not fully replaced with the BW until around that date.

Could it be as late as 1937? The 2nd Battalion received New Colours at Balmoral Castle on 14 Sep 1937.

Not a good photo but maybe a similar setting.

There is a possibility it is the same venue, Chalky. The chalked white line in the original photo is perhaps present in the 1937 image.

Dont think any BW Bn were in East Africa 1943 he may have been attached to another unit? I think that photographer may be Salisbury Rhodesia.
