Mike, thanks for your input but the 2nd Bn were in Ambala/Peshawar 1902-04.
Where as the 1st were in Edinburgh/Fort George 1902-04, this looks like the cold North to me.
I have seen officers plaid brooches with hollow centres at auctions but they were never attributed to a particular Bn.

Will post some pics on Canadian thread tomorrow would value your opinion.
    Ron.

You certainly right, Ron, that this is the 1st Bn.

T/5/RH shoulder titles, a penciled date to the reverse 30-1-14.
But this looks more like summer camp than January in Dundee.

Anonymous portrait possibly taken in France, that is not an English piece of furniture.
Threadbare carpet where all those hob-nail boots have stood.

Cabinet card portrait by Wm Aimer Perth circa 1900.
Looks like a new recruit, he needs to grow into those sleeves.

    Studio group by A.C.McNair Dundee.
Seated man on right wears small RH shoulder title, below that a company flash, below that a thistle arm badge denoting 8th RH in 9th Scottish Division.
He also wears a MM ribbon and 2 years overseas chevrons. The man standing next to him also 8th RH, the other seated man possibly KOSB.
Photo came in a paper wallet.

Also known as straight street in English but referred to by HM forces as the "gut"and I am sure some of our forum members including myself have frequented some of the many bars and perhaps even the brothels .The battalion was in Malta in 1964 for amphibious landing training and my prominent memory is a bit of a rammy we had with sailors from the US 6th fleet. Oh happy days.. Bill.
