This looks like it might date from the late 1930s. In 1937, Japanese forces advanced south from Manchuria to take control of the principal cities in eastern China: Peking, Shanghai, Hankow, Tientsin, Canton and, most notoriously, Nanking. Tensions culminated in the 'Tientsin Incident' of June-July1939 when as a result of a Japanese blockade and threats to Europeans, there was a brief prospect of armed confrontation between Britain and Japan. Are these 6th Bn men marching from Queen's Barracks to the station? Presumably they are Territorials. 1 BW, on the way home from India, were in Sudan until August 1938 when they returned to Dover. 2BW having been at Maryhill Barracls since 1933 departed for Palestine in September 1937.
