    Col-Sergt Macmillan, 16 page memoir booklet 1912.
2718 C/Sgt John Macmillan from Pitcairngreen, KIA at Magersfontein 11th Dec 1899, shot through the head.
Enlisted in the Black Watch aged 16 in 1885 and became a committed Christian since 1889, he was a frequent speaker at Perth YMCA.
In the last letter to his wife he wrote. "Should I fail don't forget to ask for my medals which I would consider my son's property on his being able to look after them.
I read the 24th Chapter of Matthew's Gospel today and was refreshed".
His last words as he led the men of 'A' Coy forward, "Prepare to meet thy God".

Small cabinet portrait by Grestys of Fleetwood. 42nd officer wearing undress uniform circa 1870, his cap insignia shows a sporran style St. Andrew's device flanked by a thistle wreath above 42 numerals.

This man wears a Black Watch sweetheart in his cap.
On his shoulder he wears a Training Reserve Brigade no 19 arm patch post 1916.
There were no Black Watch or HLI in that brigade, but the HLI reserve regiment was numbered 19th Bn pre 1916.
