4th Perthshire Volunteer Battalion Pipe Majors plaid brooch. 1887-1908.
A splendid unmarked silvered example. Highly burnished quoit with a scalloped and notched border, mounted with a heavy thistle wreath bearing the Lamb and Staff of St. John the Baptist taken from the City Arms. Below the wreath a legend inscribed 4th Vol Bat BLACK WATCH. An impressive four and a quarter inch diameter weighing 5.6oz.

Perth used to be know as 'St. Johns Town' because of the parish church which lay at its core. St. Johns Kirk founded way back in 1128, although the present building dates from 1440 though with many modifications and additions.

Victorian silver and gilt helmet plate badge 1881-1902.
A well made die-struck high quality example by R & HB Kirkwood Thistle St Edinburgh. Scrolls fixed by copper rivets overlay held by brass cotter pin. Four heavy duty silver loops to the reverse set at a 45 degree angle. If you include all rivets and fittings 21 separate parts. The average weight of my die-struck officers glengarry badges is 24gms, this example weighs 46.65 gms.
    Ref KK256.

Ron...Must have missed this post when you originally put it up. I have a glengarry that belonged to Lt Col Arthur HC Sutherland MC (commissioned 2nd Batt 1910). It came with no badge attached but had 4 lug holes at exactly the lug positions shown on the reverse image of this badge. I had always wondered what type of BW badge had 4 lugs. Now I know. So, I would submit that this badge was also used on the glengarry.

Mike, three reasons why I call this a helmet badge, firstly the weight, secondly the size and position of the lugs and last it is an exact match for KK256.
But as you say it would fit a glengarry.
    Ron.
Will post another photo of the reverse when photobucket is running again!
Managed to open photobucket but had to change to Google Chrome, here is the reverse.
